What Are Cultural Royalties?

Understanding how MADECX protects and monetizes Black cultural property through the Cultural Property Rights Standard™.

The Problem

For decades, Black cultural contributions—from music and dance to phrases and fashion—have been appropriated and commercialized without proper credit or compensation to their originators.

Traditional copyright law wasn't designed to protect cultural expressions, leaving creators vulnerable to exploitation by brands, platforms, and media companies who profit billions from Black culture.

How much does it cost to enable royalties?
Enabling royalties requires the MADE CX Verified plan ($49/month or $588/year). The subscription unlocks royalty collection, commercial lien filing, on-chain BCID recording, and the Custodian/Enforcement service. Once active, MADE CX takes 16% of royalties collected on your behalf; your 80% creator share pays out monthly. See /pricing.html for full plan details.
What qualifies as "cultural property"?
Cultural property includes original creative expressions such as dances, phrases, memes, fashion styles, musical elements, performance techniques, and other cultural contributions. If you created it and it has cultural significance, it likely qualifies.
How does MADECX enforce my rights?
We use a combination of technology monitoring and legal enforcement. Our systems scan for unauthorized use, and our legal team handles takedown notices, licensing negotiations, and if necessary, legal action against infringers.
How long until I receive payment?
Once a license is executed and payment is received, your share is processed within 14 business days. Payments are sent directly to your connected bank account.
Can I cancel my agreement?
Yes. You can terminate your Creator Custodian Agreement at any time with 30 days notice. Active licenses will continue until their term ends, but no new licenses will be issued.
What is the 4% community fund?
4% of all royalties go into the MADECX Community Fund, which supports Black cultural initiatives, educational programs, and emerging creators. It's our way of reinvesting in the culture that makes this all possible.
Do I need a lawyer?
No. Our Creator Custodian Agreement is written in plain language and designed to protect you without requiring legal assistance. However, you're always welcome to have an attorney review it.

By this Creator Custodian Agreement, the Creator named above appoints MADE CX Inc., a Delaware corporation, as their Cultural Property Custodian and Fiduciary, granting MADE CX the authority to file cultural liens, enforce rights, negotiate licenses, and collect license revenue on the Creator's behalf pursuant to the MADECX Cultural Property Rights Standard™. MADE CX accepts this appointment and will perform treasury and rights-administration services in good faith. MADE CX's compensation is governed by the Custodian Compensation Clause: 16% of all royalties collected, with an additional 4% allocated to the Cultural Reinvestment Fund. Royalties will be deposited to the verified Stripe Connect account on file; this Agreement is not in effect without a verified payout method.
